The Knights of the Province of Oxfordshire, Berkshire & Buckinghamshire have always proudly supported the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital, and so were happy to support their Provincial Prior in May.

Visit to Chapter of Provincial Priory for Gloucestershire & Herefordshire
The meeting opened at 11am and, once the Priory had been opened, the R.E. Provincial Prior asked for a round of applause to commemorate the 70th anniversary of VE day. This was fittingly very loud and long.

The first visit as Provincial Sub-Prior to the London Provincial Priory meeting
London is large province. We are 16 Preceptories, they are 28 so the Banner Parade took a lot longer than usual. The meeting went very smoothly under the gentle guidance of their Provincial Marshal and all bar one of the officers was present.

Installation of new Provincial Prior for Leicestershire & Rutland
Having picked up our R.E. Provincial Prior at 7.45 we had a smooth and uninterrupted run up to Leicestershire’s Masonic Centre. In fact we arrived at 9.25 and parked under the building in a very low roofed parking bay.

Provincial Priory of Malta at Sindlesham
Our Provincial Marshal and his team of willing helpers had all but completed the setup when I arrived about 11:30 am. I was then able to give him the labels for the reserved seating. I then proceeded to put out the place cards in the dining room.

Visit to North and East Yorkshire Provincial Priory
I met our R.E. Provincial Prior in the Abbey. He was staying in York; Selby Abbey is another lovely venue for a meeting and has a 1,000 year old history.

Provincial Priory of West Yorkshire held at Batley
I was collected by our Vice Chancellor E.Kt Graham McGowan Smyth for a thrilling ride to Batley, West Yorks. After a swift ride up the M1 as far as Junction 40, we found our way to Batley Field Hill for the annual Chapter of the Provincial Priory of West Yorkshire.

The Sub Prior represented the Province at the annual meeting of the Province of Worcestershire held in the Hall of the King’s School, Worcester where the Provincial Prior, Rt E Kt Stephen Wyer was in splendid form to conduct the proceedings.

Meeting of the Provincial Priory of Devon and Cornwall held at the Hall of Chivalry, Tintagel, Cornwall
The Provincial Vice Chancellor made an early start from Oxford to collect the Provincial Prior from Topsham near Exeter. The Provincial Prior interrupted his holiday to support the Devon & Cornwall Provincial meeting.

Lincoln Cathedral the venue for the Provincial Priory of Lincolnshire
I picked up our R.E. Provincial Prior at around 6am and had an uneventful two and half hour trip to Lincoln, which despite the warnings about local traffic conditions, we were parked up at 9:15.

Provincial Priory meeting for London
The meeting at Mark Masons’ Hall in St James’s Street was well attended by visiting knights. The Provincial Prior welcomed them warmly and proceeded to conduct the business of the meeting with ease and confidence.

This was our first visit to Northumberland and our R.E. Provincial Prior had already made the trip up earlier in the week. His trip into Newcastle from Morpeth by train was quick and easy.

Report on Provincial Priory of Oxfordshire, Berkshire & Buckinghamshire held at the Berkshire Masonic Centre, Sindlesham
On arriving at the Sindlesham Masonic Centre for Provincial Priory meeting the whole building was alive with Knight Templar Masons.  Some just arriving looking for the Robing Room, others sorting out the Preceptory Banners.  The Provincial Marshal and the Bodyguard Commander rehearsing their teams.  The whole Centre was alive with anticipation.

Provincial Priory meeting of Lancashire held at Leyland
The weather was certainly variable en route though we arrived in good time. It was raining heavily and I needed assistance getting in to a very tight parking place as the car park was full. It was raining on the day of the Battle of Agincourt, I am sure there were no grumblings about the weather then either.

Visit to the Essex Provincial Priory meeting held at Southend-on-Sea to see the Installation of a new Provincial Prior

We then witnessed a fairly rare event in Knight Templar Masonry, a field promotion. The recipient of this unexpected preferment was V.E. Kt. Peter Swannell, PGtReg, their Past Provincial Sub-Prior who is heavily involved with the King Edward VII Preceptory of Improvement and a very busy mason around their province.

East Anglia Provincial Priory meeting held at Hunstanton
Despite the brisk and fresh morning with a hint of snow coming in from the sea, he received a warm and friendly greeting from the Provincial Prior for East Anglia, R.E. Kt Steward Charles Lambert Middleton. This was quickly followed by a coffee and a bacon roll restorative after the journey from Bucks.

I met E. Kt. Tony Bargrove on the way in. He has been made Provincial Sub-Prior and appeared a little nervous at the prospect, a big day for him. The day was also special for E. Kt. David Coombes as he was being installed as R.E. Provincial Prior.

The Eminent Preceptor, E.Kt Pinches, opened the Crusader Preceptory and the Provincial Marshal E.Kt Bancroft, introduced the Provincial Prior and the Provincial Officers under an Arch of Steel provided by the Bodyguard.

Most Eminent and Supreme Knight Leslie Felgate Dring, GCT
It is with sadness that we must report that the M. E. and S. Kt Leslie Felgate Dring, Knight Grand Cross of the Temple, Past Grand Master passed to the Grand Lodge above at 5pm on Friday 14th December 2012 in the John Radcliffe Hospital at Oxford aged 89 years, after a period of illness.

After the R.E. Provincial Prior, the Sub Prior and the Provincial Officers had processed in to the Chapter house, the R.E. Prov Prior instructed the Prov Sub Prior, E.Kt A.B. Milne, to open the chapter of the Knights of Malta.

The Chapter was held in the impressive surrounding of Selby Abbey. The meeting was preceded by a Service of Worship in the Abbey at 10.30am, after which the Ladies retired to Selby Masonic Hall where they enjoyed a knowledgeable talk on the Abbey.
